Listen to me when I say Renee Ahdieh is a master of writing romance fantasy. This book makes me swoon so much! It is very romantic, with forbidden and dangerous love at its core. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Marcelline Béatrice Rousseau is a girl moving from France to New Orleans, in there she gets pulled into a world of upper class society, but this society has secrets, and it is a dangerous one… ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I love the intrigue on this one, it is not merely focused on romance but also how societal standard can be totally discriminating, especially towards marginalized people. The plot itself not only stands on the romance between two characters, but also murders (there are more than one, yes), and Celine is determined to uncover the killer. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ And Bastien. The prince of Courts of Lions, the Lion himself. Charming but dangerous, witty but also annoying. That’s Sebastien Saint Germain for you. I got some book mail today! I was actually just taking these pics for my usual story haul, but I actually really liked the way they came out. Thank you iPhone portrait mode . . . . Some unnecessary backstory: I had preordered an Animal Crossing New Horizons guide book with a gift card, but the release date kept getting pushed back. And the book is already out of date because of all the updates to the game . Plus, the internet exists so I decided to cancel my order and get these 2 with the money. The Beautiful has a really nice matte feel and I can’t stop petting it . Plus, I feel like we’re going through a vampire revival phase and I wanna join ‍. I’ve still gotta read Crave and From Blood & Ash ! . . . I already own a copy of The Red Scrolls of Magic, but I like this cover so much more as it actually matches the rest of the series lol. It’s so pretty . It also matches the cover of the next book, The Lost Book of the White. . . . QotD: Do you ever buy multiple editions of the same book? AotD: I do quite a bit . I only try to do it for my favorite authors though or if there’s some exclusive content in the other copy that I must have. This book has been on my radar for months, but after adding it to multiple wishlists with no luck, I finally bit the bullet and bought it for myself. • The Beautiful is set in 1872 New Orleans. New Orleans is my favorite city in the world, and I am absolutely enamored with its history and legends. I’ve heard this book is not as “vampirey” as other popular vampire books, but I was sold on the setting alone. According to the synopsis, it is “a sultry romance and a thrilling murder mystery,” which sounds right up my alley! I love @reneeahdieh’s writing! This world was mysterious, magical, and marvelous! I loved this new vampire lore and the romance was to die for the mystery hooked me and I can’t wait for The Damned! I started reading this book as a part of the @penguinteen read a long and then just couldn’t put it down!

Hey lovelies! @penguinteen is doing a read along for The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh this month and we’re now entering week twoSwipe to see what chapters we’re reading this week. I actually joined a little late and got started on my reading for it over the weekend. I’m liking this one a lot. It’s a beautifully written story taking place in 1872 New Orleans. The main character, Celine, fled her life as a dressmaker in Paris to go to the city they say is “ruled by the dead”. She joins a convent with six other girls. She finds herself interested in Sebastien, the leader of the “glitzy underworld” known as La Cour sea Lions. Murders begin happening and they don’t know who the serial killer is. This book is both a murder mystery and a romance.
