2020 continues to give us amazing adaptation news: The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh is getting a TV series adaptation! The series will be produced by 1212 Entertainment and Pippa Lambert’s Hellcat, and we can’t wait to see how they bring to life the book TIME recently named one of the 100 Best Fantasy Novels Ever Written. But as longtime fans, we definitely have high expectations for the series, so here are the top 5 things we’re desperate to see in the TV adaptation…
Chemistry
The white hot chemistry between Khalid and Shahrzad better burn our eyeballs off, because whether or not we can ship this couple will make or break the series!
Good casting
We’re definitely hoping the series doesn’t pull an M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender and whitewash the characters, since the book is inspired by folklore from the Middle East, India, and North Africa.
Snappy dialogue
Shahrzad enters the palace angry and determined to stop the Caliph’s executions, and we’re hoping for dialogue and one-liners that show her strength! And the series just wouldn’t be the same without Jalal and Despina’s sass along the way.
Lush cinematography
Ahdieh gives so many incredible, colorful details about everything in Shahrzad’s world, from the desert landscapes to the palace to the food and clothing. We definitely want to see that care reflected in the show’s settings and costumes!
Awesome action sequences
We love the epic adventures in the stories Shahrzad tells, and we hope to be on the edge of our seats when the series shows those stories-within-a story. Plus, Shahrzad’s archery skills are such an important part of the story!
We can’t wait to share updates as soon as we know more! In the meantime, if you haven’t already read The Wrath and the Dawn, or you just need a refresher, make sure to pick up your copy and get caught up on the series, including the sequel, The Rose and the Dagger.
