7 Bookish Super Powers Every Reader Wishes They Had

As more and more superhero franchises emerge, we can’t help but think that a grand opportunity has been missed for a new class of superheroes. Heroes whose sole mission is to rid the world of bookish disasters, who fight for our right to read whatever and whenever, and bring peace to readers everywhere! That’s right, we’re talking about SUPER READERS.

Marvel and DC representatives, take note. Here’s our pitch for a team of super readers who are ready to save the bookish universe, one page at a time.

1. The Speed Reader

Besides the obvious joy that comes with being able to read more books in less time, the speed reader could also use this power to help the greater book community. Answering to the cries of those who have finished a book none of their friends have read, this hero would fly through the pages and immediately be able to console the reader’s book hangover.

2. The Spoiler Fighter

Use this power to blast rays at those who dare to share spoilers! Just kidding, that’s a bit violent even for the most terrible villains. Instead, anti-spoiler vision would allow heroes to scan the review boards for unmarked spoilers, saving innocent book browsers all over the web.

3. The Book Healer

Fear no longer, victims of cracked spines and dog-eared pages—the book healer could mend to all your distressed books, hardcovers and paperbacks alike. But hey, don’t get reckless with the way you treat your books, this super hero can obviously tell the difference between a fluke accident and a careless book-parent.

4. The Series Time Traveler

You know where this super reader is going . . . to the publishing future! Ditch the wait time between books in a series by becoming the companion to the bookish equivalent of The Doctor. The series time-traveler would be an expert navigator, able to predict on sale dates years in advance and spot series sequels even when they’ve been repackaged.

 5. The Invisible Reader

So this power would probably most benefit the hero, but hey, even super readers deserve some solitary reading time. We imagine this as a simple, but highly effective power. All the super reader has to do is open a book to become invisible, guaranteeing they won’t be interrupted by nemeses, who want nothing more than to ask, “what are you reading?”

 6. The Book Recommender

Not sure what to read next? Don’t trust just anyone to give you a book recommendation? It’s time you called the book recommender. This hero would use their mind reading skillz to take a journey through your reading history and think up the perfect next read for you.

7. The Library Sensor

Like a real-life google maps app (without draining your data), the library sensor would have the power to detect the closest library in their area, leading book lovers everywhere to their kingdom. Their only weakness: unreturned late fees.
