Hi my loves✨ Happy Thursday! • I want to start this post off with a HUGE thank you to @penguinteen for sending me a finished copy of Sanctuary by @paolamendoza and @abbysher I can’t wait to read and review it! This beauty comes out September 1st, so keep an eye out for it! • Here’s the synopsis: Co-founder of the Women’s March makes her YA debut in a near future dystopian where a young girl and her brother must escape a xenophobic government to find sanctuary. It’s 2032, and in this near-future America, all citizens are chipped and everyone is tracked–from buses to grocery stores. It’s almost impossible to survive as an undocumented immigrant, but that’s exactly what sixteen-year-old Vali is doing. She and her family have carved out a stable, happy life in small-town Vermont, but when Vali’s mother’s counterfeit chip starts malfunctioning and the Deportation Forces raid their town, they are forced to flee. Now on the run, Vali and her family are desperately trying to make it to her tía Luna’s in California, a sanctuary state that is currently being walled off from the rest of the country. But when Vali’s mother is detained before their journey even really begins, Vali must carry on with her younger brother across the country to make it to safety before it’s too late. Gripping and urgent, co-authors Paola Mendoza and Abby Sher have crafted a narrative that is as haunting as it is hopeful in envisioning a future where everyone can find sanctuary. . . . . #thebookieclub #library #bookish #books #booksandcoffee #reviwer #blog #bookstagram #booksbooks #bookshelf #yabooks #booknerd #fantasy #recs #blogger #bibliophile #novels #ya #adult #readersofinstagram #bookworm #bookdragon #sanctuary #paolamendoza #abbysher #latinxlit #readlatinx #latinxauthors #penguinteen

An open letter to Own Voice Book Reviewers: we are more important than we are given credit for.✨ We come from a wide range of backgrounds; from race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, religion, disability, mental health, and a lot of times, these backgrounds intersect. We have SO much to offer this community and in forming and changing the way our stories are told and portrayed. If you’ve ever felt unheard, unseen, or unappreciated in this community, know that your voice matters so much more than you think. More than the community has led you to think. ✨ Keep speaking your truth, even if other voices drown you out. Keep fighting against narratives that perpetuate stereotypes and demonize underrepresented groups. Keep critiquing lazy representation and no representation at all. Keep speaking out against the big names that thoughtlessly exclude us, even and especially if that “wasn’t their intention”. Keep questioning the sincerity of hasty apologies and the intentions behind them. ✨ Keep hyping up the books that make you feel seen like no other book has before. Keep raising books by underrepresented voices so that they find their readership. Keep fighting for more Own Voice authors to be let in by the gatekeepers of publishing. Keep supporting the voices that encourage deeper forethought, love, and inclusion. ✨ Most importantly, keep being YOU. Don’t let anyone tell you your opinion is wrong or that you shouldn’t be so hard on others for “being human”. No one changed the world by being polite. ✨ Sincerely, an anxious Latina from Texas who will never stop listening, learning, and speaking out. . . . . . . . #ownvoices #ownvoicereviewers #bookstagram #bookcommunity #openletter #bookishcommunity #bookreviewer #shelfie #amessagetothebookcommunity

It feels wrong to be celebrating in these times, but it’s our 1 year anniversary. One year ago, I randomly decided to create a Booktube fan page to upload some memes I had made. The next day I woke up to find that my page had gained a couple followers and likes. I never thought I would be here today, but with the support of the Booktube community, it happened. Thank you to everyone who has liked, commented, and followed Booktube Memes. Also, I want thank the booktubers that helped me grow by sharing my memes on your platforms. All of you guys who stick around and wait for new memes, truly mean so much to me. I know im not the fastest at producing content, but I try to do something rather than nothing. I promise that Booktube Memes gets better from here and there lots of thing to look forward too. And to everyone having a hard time, I’m here for you ❤️ Thank you everyone for supporting me and Booktube memes. – Brandon, from Booktube Memes

Happy Tuesday bookbabes! I am so proud of my heritage and culture- I am a proud Latinx woman who grew up surrounded by strong Puerto Rican woman who taught me to never pretend to be something I am not. I am so proud of the traditions and history I was so lucky to be a part of growing up- I spent my summers in Puerto Rico with my cousins having adventures and climbing trees for fresh coconuts and mangos. I helped my grandmother every holiday make pasteles and Alcapurrias. We ate morcilla with our eggs and fried queso. We danced late into the night on Holidays to Salsa and Bachata. – I grew up lucky enough to be loved by a HUGE family and excepted for who I am and I will never pretend to be something I am not- I am a Proud Latinx American Woman. I am a proud Puerto Rican woman. What are some the traditions from your childhood that you enjoyed most? ⭐️ Beautiful Booksleeve from @rockpaperwords – there are so many new gorgeous sleeves in the shop! Thank you so much @penguinteen and @paolamendoza @abbysher for this ARC of Sanctuary. I’m a couple pages in and cannot put it down. This dystopian novel will definitely hook you from the start, it’s so hard to put it down. What I find beyond mind-blowing is that even though it’s a dystopian novel and it’s set in 2032, it isn’t too far off the reality of Trumps America, if he had his way. This is a must read for all, as it also lets you in in what it’s like to be an undocumented immigrant under a xenophobic government and in general. It’s a cautionary novel that makes you think of what we can become as a country if we don’t “wake up”. Sanctuary is out today 9/1 make sure you grab your copy. I promise it’s worth it!!!! Also, I’m totally in love with this cover. Synopsis: It’s 2032, and in this near-future America, all citizens are chipped and everyone is tracked–from buses to grocery stores.
